The Smythe family has a long history in the automobile industry in Huntingdon Quebec. Kirk Smythe’s grandfather founded Huntingdon Motors a General Motors Chevrolet Oldsmobile dealership in 1946. Kirk’s father Jimmy took over the dealership in the early sixties. The Smythe family gave up the Gm franchise in 2007 after demands from GM to completely renovate the dealership at a cost that could not be supported by a small dealership in a town with a population of less than 3000 people.
Kirk Smythe started off in the automotive industry working a summer job at Gilles Bergeron Auto Body shop in Huntingdon. He started working at the family dealership after school hours washing cars, then in the shop doing oil changes, tune ups ect. and after that in the service and parts department. In the early eighties he started in the sales department where he worked in sales, management, owner until the closing in 2007.
Kirk got his first experience with paintless dent repair after the ice storm of 1998 when the insurance company hired 3 technicians from the United States to repair the vehicles damaged by the ice. Numerous attempts were made after this to have a PDR technician to service our area, but to no avail, so when the dealership closed Kirk sought out the best possible training to full fill this need in the Huntingdon and surrounding areas.
After extensive research Kirk set out to California for an intense one on one training course by one of the founding members of the National Alliance of Paintless Dent Repair Technicians, Marty Runick of TopGun PDR Training , arguably on of the best technicians and trainers in the country. After many months of practise, thus Kirk Smythe PDR was formed.
